Spice Workshops for Children

Exciting, interactive workshops about the world of spice - for children aged 5 to 16.

Do you know your grains of selim from your grains of paradise? Your berbere from your baobab or your cubebs from your calabash nutmeg? Have you heard of dawa dawa? Do you know how spices can add zing to your dishes?

This is a fun, interactive and light-hearted exploration of the world of spice. Patti will take you on a mind trip through different countries and cultures, discovering their culinary secrets, along with health benefits. You will learn how to make dry rubs and wet pastes and bring a smile to faces.

When it comes to spices, there's a wealth of exciting information waiting for you to enjoy. No kitchen should be without its arsenal of spices, grinders, mortars and pestles. Join Patti for tips and an adventure in flavour and allow spices to breathe life into your kitchen!

With a beautiful spice display, Patti will chat about how spices add flavour to foods and make foods taste delicious. She will demonstrate how to use the utensils and chat about the children’s favourite foods and how to bring exciting new flavours to them.

Participants will each receive a seasoning reference guide & a recipe print out.

Working with primary and secondary schools in London, Hertfordshire and beyond, I can tailor the sessions to suit small groups or whole classes.

I bring everything needed to run these fun interactive sessions that bring food & culture to life.

Sessions are informative, interactive and children leave inspired to cook and find out more about the world of flavour.

Testimonials

“Hosting Patti for her first secondary school workshop was an absolute privilege. Her energy was contagious - students and staff alike left the session feeling inspired and eager to explore the vibrant flavours of Ghana. After just one workshop, I was completely sold. Patti’s infectious passion for cuisine and her zesty personality made it impossible not to invite her back again and again. She brings such a unique learning experience that every student should have the chance to enjoy."

"We were absolutely delighted to welcome Patti Sloley from Patti’s Menu to our school for Culture Day, where she delivered a fantastic workshop to our Year 7 students. Patti’s warm, engaging approach captivated our students, and her passion for sharing the richness of Ghanaian cuisine shone through every part of the session.

Our students thoroughly enjoyed learning about the vibrant flavours, cultural traditions, and stories behind each dish. Patti created a hands-on experience that allowed them not only to learn but also to get involved – and of course, to taste the delicious food! It was a highlight of the day and left a lasting impression on both students and staff.

We are so grateful to Patti for bringing such energy, knowledge, and culinary flair to our school. It was an inspiring and joyful celebration of culture through food that I would wholeheartedly recommend to other schools."
